Walking in Loch an Eilein & Anagach Woods

Two walks in this post, one at Loch an Eilein, near Aviemore; the other beside the Spey River in the Anagach Woods at Grantown on Spey.

More details on both walks can be found on the excellent Walk Highlands website, which has maps and walk details for Loch an Eilein and Anagach Woods.

Loch an Eilein

On the way to the walk we drove past Loch Feshie, as the sun was getting low.

As we walked around, the sun was setting and then we finished the walk at dusk, equipped with a decent torch for the last part.

A Winter Walk by the Spey River

We stayed at the Rowan Tree Hotel, which is next to Loch Alvie, a few miles south of Aviemore. It sits next to the Speyside Way and is a good base for exploring the Cairngorms or the southern Spey Valley. The food was really good and varied, the staff friendly and efficient and there’s a good bar and selection of drinks on offer too, including local Cairngorm Brewery Beers on draught.

There are more details on the walk from the Walk Highlands website, the section we did was Aviemore to Kincraig, a there and back from the Rowan Tree. There are some fine views to be seen over the Spey Valley, looking towards the Cairngorm Mountains.

A quick thank-you to The Suie Bar, for allowing us in to use their toilets out of hours – a nice looking wee bar and worth a visit we think.
